WHAT IS A .M3U8 FILE?
A .M3U8 file is an ‘extensible playlist’ file format. It is basically a playlist containing UTF-8 encoded text that points at video files.
The m3u8 file format is a de facto standard playlist format suitable for carrying lists of media file URLs.
Like a mRSS metadata file, m3u8 is the format used as the index file for HTTP Live Streaming. For details, see IETF Internet-Draft of the HTTP Live Streaming specification.Which can be a bit dense if you’re in a hurry.
