Die HOBBIT-Produktion hat offiziell grünes Licht bekommen. Dies verkündeten New Line Cinema und MGM heute in einer Pressemeldung. Peter Jackson wird Regie der beiden Filmen übernehmen, die komplett in 3D gedreht werden. Die Dreharbeiten beginnen im Februar.

Die Dreharbeiten werden im Februar 2011 unter der Regie von Peter Jackson beginnen, verkündeten heute Toby Emmerich, Geschäftsführer von New Line Cinema, Alan Horn, Geschäftsführer von Warner Bros. und Steve Cooper, Stellvertrender Geschäftsführer von Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc..

Jackson, der Regisseur der drei HERR DER RINGE Filme, wird die beiden HOBBIT-Filme gleichzeitig drehen und dabei bahnbrechende neue Effekte und sein unvergleichliche Erzählkunst einsetzen, um den Roman von J.R.R. Tolkien auf die Leinwand zu bringen. Beide HOBBIT-Filme werden in Digital 3-D gedreht, mit der neusten Stereo-Kamera-Technologie, um ein qualitativ hochwertiges Kinoerlebnis zu schaffen. Jackson zeichnet sich auch für die Drehbücher verantwortlich, die er zusammen mit Fran Walsh, Philipa Boyens und Guillermo del Toro geschrieben hat.
DER HOBBIT wird gemeinsam von New Line Cinema und MGM produziert. New Line wird die Produktion übernehmen, Warner Bros. Pictures wird sich um den Vertrieb in den USA kümmern, MGM um die internationale Vermarktung. Desweiteren werden die Filme produziert von Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh und Carolynne Cunningham, mit Phillipa Boyens als Co-Producer und Ken Kamins als Executive Producer.
Die Oscar-prämierte von Kritikern geliebte DER HERR DER RINGE Trilogie hat 3 Milliarden US-Dollar weltweit eingespielt. Der dritte Teil DIE RÜCKKEHR DES KÖNIGS von 2003 hat den Oscar in 11 Kategorien gewonnen, unter anderem als Bester Film. Das war das erste Mal, dass ein Fantasy-Film mit dem Oscar in dieser Kategorie ausgezeichnet worden ist. Auch die Produktion der HERR DER RINGE Trilogie war seinerzeit beispiellos.

Peter Jackson Set to Direct J.R.R Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” In a Two-Part 3D Production of Extraordinary Scope
(Los Angeles, October 15, 2010) The two films based on “The Hobbit” are now greenlit and will begin principal photography in February 2011, under the direction of Peter Jackson, it was jointly announced today by Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Operating Officer, New Line Cinema, Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros. and Steve Cooper, co-Chief Executive Officer of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc..

Jackson, who directed all three “Lord of the Rings” films, will helm the two films back-to-back, telling the story of “The Hobbit” in two parts. Both Hobbit movies will be filmed in Digital 3-D, using the latest camera and stereo technology to create a high quality, comfortable viewing experience. The Oscar-winning, critically acclaimed LOTR trilogy grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide at the box office. In 2003, “Return of the King” swept the Academy Awards, winning all of the 11 categories in which it was nominated, including Best Picture – the first ever Best Picture win for a fantasy film.
