I'm just in the process or buying an Arteon with MIB3 Discovery Media - is it possible to upgrade to Discovery Pro or is this either not worth the money or just not physically possible?

Also, it currently has the base audio and I'd like to retrofit the HK system - again is this possible?

In my experience the MIB3 DiscoverMedia works better and with less issues than the DiscoverPro. Not sure if that was a coincidence that it was always full of trouble in cars I sat in with the Pro and just better in cars with the Media, but that's just my experience. Factory speakers are quite ok, if you insulate the doors, it should improve the sound of the factory speakers massively already. As said, the HK isn't worth retrofitting.

It definitely sounds like I'm not missing out on having Discovery Pro and I assumed the digital key wouldn't work as that would need to be specced from the factory to show on VAG servers (not that I really had a want or need for that).

With regards to HK, I definitely want to try and improve the audio - it's lacking a bit of crispness at higher volumes and definitely lacking bass that the sub in the boot would improve no doubt. Are you guys just using Dynamat type material to insulate the doors?

Yeah, that works fine for insulating doors. The more you cover, also around the speaker, the better the result. In the end if you're still not satisfied with the result, you can still replace your speakers, add a sub or a DSP. Your money is better invested in actual good audio equipment rather then spending top dollar to retrofit the HK. Its really not all that good. I have the Dynaudio in my Golf mk7 and for what it is, its really good. More than enough for me. I know the Dynaudio from the Arteon as well and its so much better than the HK they put in them after. So if you want something "original", then that could be worth to consider, though I'm not sure if you're going to be able to fully integrate it into the MIB3 system that you seem to have. The Dynaudio was for the MIB2 systems. I know that it was possible to re-use the MIB1 Dynaudio amps from the early Golf 7 and Passat B8s as an example, so when you retrofitted a MIB2, you could still make the amp work with coding. Not sure if that's still possible with a MIB2 amp and a MIB3 system.

I know for sure that Dynaudio is not an option on the MIB3 Arteon and it would definitely have to be the HK system. I'm just a bit worried about the coding element as I'm sure it will need quite a lot of adaptions as well as just basic coding and there isn't any guides out there so I'd be going in blind with no guarantee it would all work if I can't get the coding right.

I'd happily go aftermarket but most of the solutions offered seem to cover up to 2020 on the Arteon which was when MIB2 was fitted. 2021> seems to have very little options once VW introduced MIB3. If I can find some form of aftermarket solution, I'd happily do that over HK as there's no doubt it will be cheaper anyway than retrofitting used HK parts which are somewhat average/"ok" in quality.

Sounds like the coding for Discovery Pro is fairly straightforward but not worth bothering with.

Maybe I'll look at sound insulation and aftermarket options on the speakers.
