Hi

I am investigating if there is a firmware update available for the DQ-381 gearbox in my Arteon as I am not entirely happy with the shifting quality. I have serviced the gearbox and also replaced the filter at 44,000m and relearned the shift adapts. This did improve matters but I still believe it is less than optimal hence the query.

I am a long time user of VCDS so I am comfortable with general coding but I have only recently purchased a red VNCI 6154A, installed the DEB versions of ODIS S and ODIS E on my laptop and downloaded the 5 2025 flashdata.

I have read extensively and I am of the understanding that ODIS S is used for guided/manual fault finding and coding/adaptation etc while ODIS E is user for flashing modules.

I have an ERWin account but I am holding off of paying for an hours access as I am still unsure as to how to access TPIs or even if one exists for my specific case.

My understanding is that the 'basic' process is as follows:
1. Make a backup of the long coding and any custom adaptations.
2. Flash the module using ODIS E.
3. Parameterize the module using ODIS E.
4. Restore any long coding and adaptations.

I have questions regarding points 2 and 3 above:
Point 2 Q1: How does one determine if an update from one firmware index to another is possible. I assume this is gathered via a specific TPI or some general forum knowledge?
Point 2 Q2: What is the best methodology to use when searching in ErWin for a respective TPI? Is it via vehicle VIN, control unit number or some other approach?
Point 3 Q1: It is my current understanding that one either needs dealer level admin via ODIS E online access to access parameter files or a genuine copy of VCP or alternatively a VCP->ODIS format converted parameter file. Is my understanding correct?
Point 3 Q2: Is downloading a parameter file to the module always required or are there specific cases where this is not needed?

With all the above being said my DSG info is as follows:

Address 02: Auto Trans (J743) Labels:. 0BH-927-711.clb
Part No SW: 0GC 300 043 HW: 0GC 927 711 H
Component: GSG DQ381 H06 2301
Revision: 00H06V08 CVN: 887992AD
Coding: 0014
Shop #: WSC 00000 000 00000
ASAM dataset: EV_TCMDQ381061 001
ROD: EV_TCMDQ381061.rod
VCID: 6491AC8DCED841FA0AB-8030

Upon searching in the flashdata for 0GC 300 043 I can see there are potentially higher firmware versions as follows:
FL_0GC300043_2303_cTCK_sw.frf
FL_0GC300043_2308_LPCK_sw.frf
FL_0GC300043_2309_QPCK_sw.frf
FL_0GC300043_2310_QPCK_sw.frf

I've converted these to ODX and had a look inside but nothing is forthcoming as to their suitability.
Question: What to the letters (in bold above) after the firmware number refer to?
Any finally If any of these revisions are suitable will I also require a parameters set?

Just take care to have battery turn ignition ON and use ODIS-E, select Transmission and go to the flash section right and search local file + select the lastest firmware FL_0GC300043_2310_QPCK_sw.frf and flash. Done!.. (y)

No, just flash.

update the VNCI to lastest firmware Device Manager 3.5 check on forum and to be more stable use the cable no wifi and update lastest D-PDU_API_33.0.0, what ODIS-E version you will use?

No not yet - just checked the VNCI - I'm currently running Devicer manager 3.5 and latest firmware 1.1.8.5. Will maybe try flash tomorrow if weather is acceptable.

Will shift adapts need to be manually reset post flash or is that data cleared automatically during the flash?

I might try updating the firmweare tomorrow. I had a look on ErWin last night and couldn't find any TPIs relating to firmware versions 2303,2308,2309 & 2310. Upon looking into the ODX files all the dates are at least 2 years prior to my vehicle registration. Why would an earlier firmware version be flashed onto a much newer gearbox? Am I overthinking this?

An update. Given I could not find any relevant TPIsI decided to err on the side of caution and delay updating and decided to continue research until I had something definitive.

So it seems that for the Arteon in my guise there are no updates post 2301or certainly none that I can find in ErWin.

However I've partially managed to decode the 4 letter suffix on the flash files.

First letter is car platform and second is related to engine:
FL_0GC300043_2303_ cT CK_sw.frf (c denotes Passat/Arteon. T denotes DFHA engine)
FL_0GC300043_2308_ LP CK_sw.frf (L denotes T-Roc (A1)/Audi Q2 (GA)/SEAT Alteca (KH)). P denotes DFGA engine)
FL_0GC300043_2309_ QP CK_sw.frf(Q denotes Touran 5T . P denotes DFGA engine)
FL_0GC300043_2310_ QP CK_sw.frf (Q denotes Touran 5T . P denotes DFGA engine)

Using the information I have however found other updates* for the DQ-381 that may (or may not!) be possible to cross flash although this is far beyond my comfort zone!
Third letter I believe is related to the last 3 digits of the SW part number with I think the fourth letter being related to the SW letter revision.

Searching the flashdata for 0GC300* _cP returns the following further hits:
FL_0GC300044F_2401_cPFZ_sw.frf cPFZ 0GC300044F 2401
FL_0GC300044F_2402_cPFZ_sw.frf cPFZ 0GC300044F 2402
FL_0GC300044T_2403_cPGT_sw.frf cPGT 0GC300044T 2403

Finally:
FL_0GC300046P_2805_cPKG_sw.frf cPKG 0GC300046P 2805
FL_0GC300047M_2806_cPNF_sw.frf cPNF 0GC300047M 2806
(These two appear to relate to the DTSB engine - Assuming this is the EVO variant of the TDI 150 )

I'll have a look at the ODX output to see if I can glean any further information. However in lieu of solid experience and further research I'm tempted to pause/retire this effort and instread look at a drivability update for the TCU instead as I think that is what I truly seek
