Online traffic…. It can be enabled on MMI 3G Plus systems via adaptation channel 69, the correct value is 32787. Once enabled, you need to activate your license, this license is downloaded from Audi Germany server (143.164.168.15), if your VIN is not whitelisted on this server an error message will come up advising query cannot be processed.
You can spoof this request, i.e replace your vin with another whitelisted vin to enable this feature… vin can be injected in FSC file. My A4 is 2008 that didn’t come with any MMI and I have it enabled:
Once the license is activated you need to open green menu, Nav -> trafficonline
First choose a traffic provider as your TPEG endpoint source, here is the list:
A - Navteq
B – INRIX
C – Disabled
D – Disabled
E – Disabled
F - Finkbeiner-Testserver
G –
TomTom (default)
H - ARC
The TPEG endpoint URL can also be customized in case you need to play with the http traffic:
Live – production use (default)
Pre-Live – pre production
T&I – Test and Development
Dev – development server, used only by Ch. Lukasch from Harman.
Authentication must be enabled all the time (untick the off check box), otherwise it will not work.
Now.... the bad news:
After spending days on this earlier this year, I realised that none of the providers has any info for Australia… therefore at this stage (at the time of posting this), online traffic doesn’t work in Australia.
For those who are interested in hacking this, read on...
TPEG data are downloaded from provider's web server in binary UTSDF format every 3000ms and saved into /tmp as *.tpeg, then the data is collected by Nav application and mapped to the map. If you can get your hands on a working source you can make your own wget downloader, cleanup is not required as tmp gets destroyed every time MMI is switched off.
During my stay in Europe I was able to sniff the traffic by bridging TetherBox into Wireshark. I was able to see that the initial online traffic data license is authenticated against Audi servers in Germany, pretty easy to spoof but can't say too much here for obvious reasons.
Once the MMI is authenticated, the connection is constantly made to
Tomtom servers for Traffic information. The traffic is standard HTTP protocol and the downloaded files are standard TPEG xml.
If your VIN number is not whitelisted for online traffic.
1. you will need to inject a working VIN into your FSC file.
2. Patch MMI3GApplication to hide your VIN (HexEdit address 384866, Change 4E to 09 and 8D to 00)
3. Reboot twice
